Since she was young, she admired folk art, so she started baking gingerbread honey cakes and carving Easter eggs for her own pleasure. She became actively involved in production since 1978. Gradually, she improved her skills in egg carving technique and in 1981 began cooperating with the Folk Art Production Center. She carved patterns from the Púchov Valley, but also worked on traditional motifs from her native region – Vlárske patterns. Vlárske patterns are characterized by rakes, forks, and combs. She was able to combine plant, zoomorphic, and figurative motifs in her compositions. Besides her professional egg carving, she was exceptional in coloring eggshells with natural dyes. She used natural colors from wheat, weld, oak bark, cabbage leaves, and others. Helena Burdová often participated in various competitions at home and abroad, showcasing her carved egg production. In 1988, she obtained a certification as a master of folk art production in the field of egg production, awarded by the Commission for Assessing the Professional Competence of Folk Art Production Workers.
