A native of Bratislava who decided to live in her mother’s hometown of Hradište pod Vrátnom makes perforated Easter eggs decorated with wax. She started creating them during her maternity leave when, as a dental technician, she tried using a dental drill on a material other than teeth. Wax is also part of dentistry, so the transition to making Easter eggs was not difficult for her. She draws inspiration for patterns from the ornamentation and colors of the folk costumes from Hradište. She began with chicken eggs and gradually added all other types of eggs available on the Slovak market. She has been collaborating with ÚĽUV (Centre for Folk Art Production) since 2001. During their first meeting, she consulted with the ÚĽUV artist Janka Menkynová, who liked the plain Easter eggs without decoration with white wax. However, some people found them incomplete, so Andrea Filová gradually added white wax again and later more colors on a single egg. She showcases her decorated eggs abroad (Stockholm, Brussels, Lublin) and only participates in major artisan events in Slovakia (Craftsmen’s Days of ÚĽUV, EĽRO Kežmarok).
