Margareta Deep lives in the village of Dolná Bzová, but creates in Detva, where she has a workshop and a company called Margaret – design. She decided to devote herself to traditional crafts in adulthood, when her grandmother, who had been making costumes her whole life, no longer had enough strength and stopped doing it. She saw the tradition disappearing in this direction, which was within her reach, and felt not only the desire, but also the need to continue in order to preserve the tradition and craft. They spent the whole holidays with their grandparents in the village of Látky. Hay was dried, spun, and woven, they helped with farming in the fields or with the livestock. In winter, there was always something stretched on a frame for embroidery with a curved needle, or textile was cut for weaving. This country way of life has remained close to her to this day, and she is happy that she encountered embroidery, crocheting, weaving, sewing, and knitting here. In the village of Málinec, where they lived, several traditions were observed: building the Maypole, St. John’s bonfires, Christmas performances by elementary school students, Mother’s Day celebrations. Later on, a theater and a small ensemble were established. However, many older citizens preserved the local dialect, which still resonates in her ears, and she often communicates in this dialect as well. Her first teacher was her grandmother. Today, she remembers her with love, admiration, and humility. She admired her patience and peace in crafts – embroidery or crocheting. She acquired further practical and theoretical knowledge about the production she is dedicated to from teachers at secondary school – tailoring and fabric recognition. She decided to study at a secondary school in Zvolen in the field of modeler and fashion designer, where they had tailoring as practice. From the first year, however, she went to the workshop after school to sew things for herself and people in the village. From the third year, she attended a sewing circle. This is where she perfected her tailoring skills. Since elementary school, she has also been fascinated by folklore and gradually danced in several ensembles for 18 years. Here, she was attracted by the beauty and variety of costumes. She embarked on a major renovation of costumes before the anniversary of the Poľana ensemble, as their costumes were in very poor condition. She also worked for 1.5 years at the PARTA company, where she encountered various aspects of costume production, but she is largely self-taught in this field. She has been associated with costumes since childhood. However, she feels that her entire life path has led to this work. Over time, her range has evolved when she started repairing the first costumes for the ensemble. Subsequently, other dancers approached her to sew shirts, embroider leggings, make aprons, …For individual products, she uses both hand and machine sewing, hand embroidery with various techniques: curved needle, cross-stitch, filling stitch, embroidery through pleats – on skirts, various types of cutouts. Likewise, hand embellishment with beads, pearls, shaping of fabric flowers especially for Novohrad costumes. She highly values everything our ancestors have left us. In her work, she tries to draw inspiration from the most authentic materials and patterns, adhering to either cutting or decorative execution.Over time, her production has become very diverse. Based on the demand from the community, customers constantly approached her with different requests, so now she produces costumes, parts of costumes, ethnic fashion, embroidered household textiles, as well as a lot of linen clothing and accessories. Currently, she makes a living from folk art production, she loves her work. Whenever she can create, embroider, and decorate, she feels an incredible sense of fulfillment and joy.
