A native of the village of Pata, he taught himself the technique of glass underpainting. In his memories, he found images on glass in every household in the village. He also devoted himself to producing painted furniture. The most famous Slovak glass painters – Ferdinand and Alexander Salzmann – inspired him in the creation of glass underpainting. He collaborated with the ÚĽUV (Center for Folk Art Production) since 1995. Through glass painting, he liked to depict folk motifs, especially Slovak traditions, daily life in the countryside, changing seasons, carnival celebrations, and more. His underpaintings strongly resonate with depicting a world full of peace and everyday joy of life. He also enjoyed portraying sacred and rural motifs. A distinctive feature of Ľubomír Kolár’s underpaintings is the fullness of the picture and the variety of the color palette. He drew motifs from encyclopedias of folk art and from the village environment in which he grew up and lived. He showcased his work at exhibitions such as “The Painted World of Ľubomír Kolár” (Sereď, 2015), “The Painted World of Ľubomír Kolár at the Balneological Museum in Piešťany” (2016), and “Christmas on Painted Glass” (Trnava, 2017).
