A native of Ústie nad Priehradou in Orava, he moved with his parents to Plavecký Štvrtok in childhood, later working and living in Bratislava. He turned the garden of the house in Plavecký Štvrtok into a Garden Gallery. He graduated from a forestry trade school, then from ŠUP-ka, and worked as a conservator at the City Museum in Bratislava, later also engaging in restoration work. His works can be divided into several periods. In the first period, during his adolescence, he created impressive sculptures inspired by rural surroundings. Figures of women engaged in daily activities, men in traditional attire are depicted in a simplified manner. This reduced form was part of his artistic expression. The works may appear imperfectly processed, but they are clean and correspond to his vision at that time. In 1987, he participated in the symposiums Zem živiteľka in Banská Bystrica and Kresané do dreva in Východná. Currently, he carves angels and life-size nativity scene figures with some carvers. In his depiction, he emphasizes the face and hands, which he believes are the artist’s decisive points of creation. He perceives clothing as seamless, without distinct divisions. The artist’s current life is fully dedicated to working with wood – he creates sculptures in his carpentry workshop, engages in restoration, and leads a wood carving workshop for enthusiasts. Since 1998, he has been organizing a wood carving symposium with international participation, culminating in the exhibition Dotyky, where participating carvers present their work. He is an inspiration and co-creator of life-size and oversized nativity scenes, annually exhibited during Christmas in the courtyard of the Old Town Hall in Bratislava – the City Museum residence. In the summer of 2001, he also created the composition The Last Supper, which was exhibited during Easter the following year. He is the publisher of the wood carving magazine Dotyky and cesty.
