The father initiated him into the secrets of the pottery craft and he learned at the Slovak majolica in Modra, where he also worked for a long time. He actively engaged in production since 1937. In the 1950s, he co-founded the ÚĽUV workshop in Ľubietová, where he and Július Fil produced highly sought-after majolica products at the time, especially perforated plates. Later, the workshop as a production cooperative produced traditional Ľubietová pottery and utilitarian pottery products. Emil Majnhold was known for his mastery in pottery wheel throwing from miniatures to large vessels. He dedicated himself to producing traditional pottery products from the Ľubietová region as a folk art producer at ÚĽUV, infusing them with his unique style. His hampules were famous, as he called them “kukučka” – with a shaped neck resembling a bird, painted birds, geometric patterns applied with colored engobes, or “kukačka” (gurguľa) with a goose quill on white, red-brown, or dark-brown engobe bases. He collaborated with several artists on the realization of artistic works, such as with academic sculptor Marián Polonský on creating large garden sculptures turned on a pottery wheel. He collaborated with ÚĽUV for many years. Emil Majnhold trained several “apprentices,” successors in the pottery craft, including his children Daniela and Emil, Zdeno Majer from Strelníky, and Gustav Virág from Slovenská Ľupča. In 1959, he obtained a certificate of qualification as a master of folk art pottery production, awarded by the Commission for the assessment of professional competence of folk art production workers.
