As a child, she had a relationship with handicrafts, moreover, they had an excellent lace maker Anna Jajcajová from Slovenský Grob as a family friend. However, no one in the family devoted themselves to bobbin lace making, so she was lucky to have met Anna Jajcajová before she passed away, and she herself became interested in bobbin lace making.
Her first practical encounter with bobbin lace making took place in 1990 at the Institute for the Occupational Rehabilitation of Citizens with Changed Employment Ability, where she worked. The then director of the institute wanted to use bobbin lace making as a relaxation-rehabilitation method for health-impaired students, and called lace maker Komorovská-Schwarzbacherová to the school as a lecturer. After a few hours of observation, Terézia Vitková also dared to join the course and became so captivated by bobbin lace making that she continued to lead the students at the institute herself after the course ended. She led the health-impaired girls for many years and learned to make bobbin lace in various ways while working with them, including using only one hand.
In addition, she participated in professional lace making courses, for instance in Špania Dolina at the Lace Days of Špania Dolina, as well as in Slovenský Grob and at the festival in Prešov, and this interest in her own improvement and exchange of experiences has persisted to this day. Perhaps that is why she initiated the founding of the lace club Babka in Petržalka, where she lives, at the end of the 90s, and thus encouraged many other women to take up bobbin lace making. For example, the first graduates of the basic course they organized gave rise to the head of another Petržalka club Okolok. Many members of the Babka club have developed into specialists in various regional types of bobbin lace through self-education and completing courses, such as Krajnian, Idrija (Slovenian), and Špania Dolina lace. The personal ambition of Terézia Vitková, whose club supports lace making events throughout Slovakia and the Czech Republic, is to advance herself to Hlohovec lace.
She alternates materials – mouline, cotton, crochet threads – depending on the nature of the work. For example, Špania Dolina and striped lace require natural materials, but she also uses mixed ones. She primarily sources them at lace making markets in Prague, where there is a wide selection. However, she doesn’t hesitate during the year when something catches her eye, and as she says, like other lace makers, she probably has material at home for half a century of work.
Bobbin lace does not clash with other natural materials, which is why she frames the finished lace in wooden or straw frames. She buys wooden frames from Ľubomír Raffaj, who makes them for several Slovak lace makers. She also keeps frames in stock, as well as tools. For example, bobbins – some made by her late husband – she has several types, which she uses when working on new patterns to better distinguish threads.
In addition to leading the Babka club, Terézia Vitková is also involved in activities with the Cancer League, where she makes lace with recovered patients, helping them find meaningful ways to spend their free time.
