The ornamentation of the Horehronie embroidery is characterized by geometric motifs, with dominating diagonal squares embroidered with colorful threads. New and simpler as well as more challenging embroidery techniques are being applied. Ordinary and twisted cross-stitch, satin stitch, cutwork, and seed stitch represent the basic techniques in the Horehronie embroidery. In addition, many others are represented, such as chain stitch, cross stitch, and backstitch.
