Pitcher with a spout from Gemer
Pitcher with a spout from Gemer
Jug with a narrow neck and handle, commonly known as a pitcher. The narrow neck protects against warm air entry and keeps the liquid longer in a cool state. The expanded upper rim is compressed into a spout. Made according to traditional templates of pottery production from the Gemer region. Hand-turned on a potter’s wheel from white clay. Decorated with painted band ornamentation in the section below the neck, composed of lines and waves of various thicknesses, made of dark brown and reddish-brown clay. The decoration is dominated by a thick band of reddish-brown line, around which the design is interrupted. The interior is glazed with a transparent glaze, while the neck and handle are glazed in green on the outside. The larger part of the vessel on the outside is unglazed.
