Pitcher with a spout from Gemer
Pitcher with a spout from Gemer
Pitcher – a container for liquid, hand-thrown on a potter’s wheel. The rounded shape of the vessel is complemented by a narrow neck, a spout, and four handles. One of the handles is larger, hollow, with a carefully sculpted spout for drinking the liquid. The pitcher is decorated with a sculpted roped motif, commonly referred to as finger ropes. The name of the motif is derived from the production process, where a clay rope is pressed and shaped by the tip of a finger in regular intervals. These finger ropes, thus created, serve not only as decoration but also to strengthen the vessel’s circumference. Both in design and shape, this pitcher is inspired by pottery products from Gemer. The interior is glazed with a transparent glossy glaze. Externally, it is produced in two color variations – glazed with green or brown glaze.
