She grew up with wood next to her father, the carver Július Katina. As a child, she spent hours with him in the workshop, and her love for wood never left her. Although she did not attend her dream art school, from maternity leave to the present day, wood carving has been her livelihood. At first, she reproduced her father’s assortment, who in his later years created pure shapes in the natural color of the wood.

However, the direction of her work was influenced by meetings with the artist of ÚĽUV Janka Menkynová, who introduced her to color, to the use of traditional ornamentation – not only aesthetically, but also philosophically – and to Kyjatice patterns, which Jana Majerská transformed with her original authorial signature. She decorates her products primarily with line carving and notch carving, colorizes them with painting and staining, and surface protects them with beeswax or linseed oil, or leaves them in their natural state.

For many years, she has been a lecturer of carving courses for children and adults at ÚĽUV and in 2020, she was awarded the title of Master of Folk Art Production.
