Koreň Stanislav

Stanislav Koreň’s artistic path is closely connected with wood. The sculptor and designer sensibly incorporates the natural properties of the material into his work. Striking stylization, voluminous integrity, playful rhythm, colorfulness, unique interpretation of folk phenomena – all of this can be found in his works of various sizes. His professional career was long associated with ÚĽUV (1954 – 1984), where he was the chief artist of ÚĽUV from 1969. During this period, he collaborated with many folk art producers, continued the work of founders, and shaped the personalities of his successors. He was acquainted with significant producers such as Jozef Lenhart, Juraj Leporis, and many others, whom he met during field research and in designing future products. In his work, he most frequently utilizes the techniques of turning and staining, respecting the natural beauty of wood. Many of Stanislav Koreň’s designs carry timelessness within them, and their forms can captivate present-day users. The most numerous utility creations are dining sets – sets of bowls, plates, platters, ladles, boxes, cutlery holders, and candleholders. Another equally extensive and rich area of Stan Koreň’s work is his free sculptural creations. Relief work in particular was historically well-represented in public spaces – halls, salons, healthcare facilities, spa houses, and more. Currently, Stanislav Koreň remains active in his workshop in Bratislava
