Restoring textile

Viera Kleinová

A waistcoat after restoration, detail Textiles are not always foremost in the interest of collectors, historians, museum curators or restorers (until recently there was no restorer devoted exclusively to textiles). In 1997, at the University of Fine Arts in the department of free textile creations, a specialized course teaching the restoration of historical textiles was founded. Students become acquainted with the methodology of restoring textiles, tapestries, laces and embroidery. The practical section of the teaching process involves cooperation with museums and other entities. Moreover, study at the studio integrally connects research, learning and the restoration of historical textile with free creation – the process of restoration becomes an unforgettable inspirational source.
