Cultural influences and inspirations do not respect state borders, and their historical and regional changes can be traced in various European countries. One of the inspirations for the European Textile Network (ETN) project is to map textile development in the form of virtual textile routes. Maps of Europe depicting the most significant changes in the development of textiles as a craft, art and industry are available on the Internet at http://www.etn-net.org./routes. The initiator of this project – Betrijs Sterk, chief editor of Textilforum magazine in Hanover, originally engaged 12 western European countries in the project in 2001, and in the following year she asked for cooperation from some eastern European countries. As a result, Slovakia appeared on this map of Europe with her contributions to textile culture from earliest to contemporary times. The Slovak partner in this project was academic painter Eva Cisárová-Mináriková, head of the Studio of Free Textile Creation at the University of Fine Arts in Bratislava, who describes the project in an interview.
