Experimental ceramics on their journey to the world

Mária Nepšinská

Božena Chandogová studied ceramics at the University of Fine Arts in Bratislava. In 2003 she participated in an exchange stay in Poland, and currently she is studying at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. Her main characteristic is experiment, not only with materials but also with techniques. This is clearly demonstrated in, for example, her primitive exterior burning of ceramics. Her studies in Dublin require endless research into a variety of areas. For Božena Chandogová this involves studying the macroscopic details of plants, their fascinating geometry created while growing, their rotation into a spiral, and the research of symbols as well as archaeology (for example fossils and skeletons), and the basic constructions of architecture. In her ceramic structures inspired by nature and architecture, she constantly strives to create a balance between the utilitarian object and the design. Božena Chandogová exhibits her works successfully not only in Ireland but also throughout Europe.
