The notion of lace as such first appeared in Slovak records in 1579. The oldest preserved braided lace was found in Lučenec and Košice area and are dated to the 16th century. The topic of this article as well as of the relevant dissertation thesis is restoring research, the restoring and preservation of braided lace – particularly of an archaeological discovery from the basilica of St. Egidius in Bardejov during research made in 2008 and 2009. There were also tombs found during this research, with some well-preserved fragments of cloth in them. In 2017 these textiles which contained also lace parts were transported to the Textile Restoration Department at the Academy of Visual Arts in Bratislava and they became a subject of post gradual scientific research.
