Cemeteries concentrate over a relatively small area many features from the field of material and spiritual culture, shaped over various periods of history. Gravestones – artefacts indicating the place of burial – are an inherent part of this space. They are made out of different materials, they have varying shapes, they express the aesthetic sensitivity of those who made and ordered them, as well as the wealth, age, faith or social status of the buried person.
