Imre Makovecz’s living architecture

Peter Pásztor, Lőrinc Csernyus

The Hungarian architect Imre Makovecz is one of the few artists from the former eastern bloc to have made his name on a world-wide scale. Architecture critics place him in the category of organic architecture, a trend which has been systematically recorded from at least the mid-19th century. What is typical of Imre Makovecz’s life work is some kind of eliding of borders: between architecture and fine art, between the past and the future, between the visible and invisible world, between what has happened and what might happen. His work is inspired by the deepest layers in history and folk art.
