Crafts without short-cuts

We often come across the term “honest craft”. Together with the craft masters Jozefína Bíliková, Ján Fotta, Jiří Halámek, Drahoslav Chalány and Štefan Rutzký we reflected on its meaning, trying to find a common denominator for this expression. For us, ÚĽUV staff, it is a craft which respects traditional methods, materials and ornamentation. It represents the work of people who did not achieve their mastery through simplification – short cuts – but spent years working on it: by honest learning, repetition, acquiring new knowledge and skills in their field of work. It is the work of masters who use their hands and mind as their most precious tools. We can distinguish in the result of their hard work – in their artefacts – its real and irreplaceable value.
