On Thursday, August 15th 2019, the sad news spread across Slovakia that the national artist Ignác Bizmayer had passed away at the grand old age of 97. Those who knew the master in person were aware of the artist’s individuality. Ignác Bizmayer was an incredibly modest and meek person who loved everydayness and simple people. It was this capacity that enabled Bizmayer to translate apparently inconspicuous world into original shapes and colours, and raised the folk master to the ranks of the artistsworthy of the epithet “national”, as well as making him unforgettable.
