Konštantín Lukáč-Jacko (1939 – 1994), born in Jarovnice near Sabinov, spent his whole life in this village, with the exception of his years spent in military service. He learnt to work with wood like the majority of farm boys: from his father. At first just by watching him, and later by helping him here and there to repair tools, or add something to the cart. Later, he learnt to make cooper’s and hollowed-out vessels, moulds for oštiepok cheese and shepherd’s crockery. When he learnt this work, he had no idea how much of an influence wood would have on his life and that it would become his main working material. The range of topics in his work and methods of artistic expression were wide. Konštantín Lukáč-Jacko, or Štanci as he was known to his friends, developed his own woodcarving signature style, his own artistic stylisation which can be found on most of his works. He was known at ÚĽUV for his precise cooper’s work for which he received the title of Master of Folk Art Production in 1991.
