Matúš Adam from Ružomberok came across wood art by accident; while preparing for his final exams, he went to relax in his grandmother’s attic, where he found a 120-year-old wooden spinning wheel. He was so taken in by it that he began to take a greater interest in this material. At first, he collected old wooden objects, but then he was gradually fascinated by the new dimension of how they could be used: making a new object out of an old one. An old, worm-eaten plank of wood from a grain chest was his first impulse. He also discovered the inspirational work of Miloslav Jaroš, a toy horse maker who was producing at the time for the Centre of Folk Art Production. Based on this inspiration, the first horse saw the light out of the hands of Matúš Adam.
