The production of textile as part of the traditional way of life of the population of present-day Slovakia was based until the mid-20th century primarily on raw materials which could be obtained on this territory. Fibrous plants here were flax and hemp. Each of the latter entered the textile culture of Slovakia’s population at a different time, but their importance within in can best be understood by following their history in parallel. Nettles were also a plant textile material, about which, however, we have little information in Slovakia.
