In addition to the normal way in which we look at traditional culture, where we focus on describing and analysing individual areas and expressions of people’s life at a certain time in various places, we can also look at the past through new topics and perspectives. They offer space for further research and interpretations of folk culture, about which (it may appear) we have already said all that needs to be said in ethnology. In research to date, these topics were always present, but were never given enough attention for them to become an independent research issue. It is only current challenges which focus our attention on them. The environmental question which resonates in the public space turns our attention, for example, towards water and people’s relation with it via adopted socio-cultural experiences. Another topic is reusing old materials and objects, which is also the content of my article.
