Basket days in the Court of Crafts

Martin Mešša

The participants at Basket Days held in the Court of Crafts in Bratislava at the end of May were seeking an answer to the question of whether basket-making products could be regarded as folk art or craft. Weaving from natural willows was the topic of not only the direct presentation of works and products from willow twigs, splints, cornhusks and straw but also the topic of a specialist conference. During the three-day exhibition, the hands of experienced producers created seemingly simple as well as more complicated products. The exhibition was focused on allowing basket makers to exchange information, their production and other materials, as well as directly meeting visitors to the Centre of Folk Art Production.
