The Cooperative for monetisation of domestic folk industry in Skalica, or “the embroidery-making cooperative (1910) was one of the predecessors of the Centre for Folk Art Production. The 100th anniversary of establishment of this cooperative is celebrated this year. The cooperative was established to give jobs to embroidery makers, weavers, draughtswomen, lace makers, metal and wood processing producers, toys makers and to allow them to get education and markets for their products. The cooperative was assigning work to 60 makers in nine regions of western and central Slovakia and organised exhibitions and promotional and sales events. The range of products of the cooperative included unique parts of folk costumes and interior textiles as well as order-made clothes elements and interiors textiles for urban people decorated with folk embroidery, ceramic products, wicker baskets, wooden products and toys. The cooperative played an important role in development of economic, social and cultural live of ordinary people and in promoting the idea of national uniqueness.
The Centre for Folk Art Production was established in 1945, after the liberation of the country. The cooperative became member of the ÚĽUV in 1946. The Cooperative for monetisation of domestic folk industry ceased to exist in 1952.
