New Masters: Modernising with Respect for Tradition

Tomáš Mikolaj

Originally from Lviv in Ukraine, Halina Grešlíková was keen on art as a child. When the time came to choose her future profession, she decided to study art – textile creation. She gradually discovered weaving, preparations for weaving, weaving techniques, textile design, material and hundred-year-old looms. After completing her studies, she joined the department of folk art of the Lviv State Museum, where she worked until 1979. She moved to Slovakia with her husband, finding work in Prešov in the Pleta production cooperative. Knitting was her work and her hobby. In 2005, she began to work with ÚĽUV, and since 2015 has been working as a teacher on textile courses for children and adults. Her range of products is dominated by practical textiles, and she prefers working with wool. In 2018, she was awarded the title of Master of Folk Art Production in the field of weaving.
