Musical instruments to the forefront

The Museum of Folk Art Production in Stupava (MĽUV) administers three types of collections: artefacts, a documentary collection and a working collection. All the collections contain items and documents concerning the production of musical instruments in Slovakia. MĽUV’s artefacts collection contains almost 140 different musical instruments made of various materials: metal, wood, horn and leather. The largest part of the collection consists of bells made of metal plate and brass, produced by forging or casting. The fujara shepherd’s horn from the environs of Banská Bystrica, marked with the oldest date (1881) inscribed on the item itself, out of all the museums and galleries in Slovakia, is to be found in the collection of the MĽUV.
