The fact that qualities such as movement and trembling can be obtained from wood is shown by the long-term procedural project by the designer and craftsman Tibor Uhrín, which has been lasting without a break from 2004 until the present day. For Uhrín, this experiment with the matter of wood, knowing its characteristics to perfection, is an opportunity to look for other paths when removing matter from wood, namely hollowing out and milling. The literal sifting through wood fibres, the harmony of the movement of the material and the hands guiding the machine which is working the wood, results in items where all this is visibly noted in its structures and final forms.
Tibor Uhrín has long been present in a space at the frontier between design and art, creating new designer objects using craft techniques. He almost makes new products, whereas their form is often based on the chosen production technology. However, he always acknowledges the practical function of the resulting products, often containers and bowls, for example. The results of his processual approach to his creation show that we can also look at these objects as works of art, which are autonomous and do not need a function to explain their existence.
