Woodturning is one of my favourite woodworking techniques. I must have been ten when my uncle first stood me in front of a lathe with a chisel in my hand. Since then, this activity has been a passion, accompanying me during my studies at the School of Applied Arts in Kremnica and then in time at the Faculty of Fine Art in Košice. I use wood turning now not only in my non-commissioned work, but also as a teacher. I teach the basics of this craft at the School of Applied Art in Ružomberok, and occasionally I also teach advanced courses abroad.
In this text, the author describes the terminology associated with lathe turning, offering a glimpse into the history of the craft, but not forgetting lathe turners in whose work we can observe the passage from practical object to work of art. In the last part, he focuses on the current state of the craft and the options it offers.
