Weaving on a small frame and card weaving

Weaving on a small frame and card weaving

Mária Mizeráková

Till mid 20th century, in addition to loom weaving, there were kept alive, within traditional textile culture in Slovakia, also less complicated techniques of textile production, namely weaving on a small frame and card weaving. Results of either technique can take the form of a string, a thin textile in the form of a sash whose length is much greater than its width. By weaving on a small frame, the following articles could have been produced: lace, strings for tying heavy loads, as well as woollen sashes – parts of folk clothing. The latter could have also been produced by card weaving.
