New masters: Seizing the past with our fingers

New masters: Seizing the past with our fingers

Tomáš Mikolaj

Milota Schusterová has devoted her whole life to painting; her father was himself a landscape painter. Her early experiences with painting also determined her university studies: she chose to study art at the Faculty of Teaching in Nitra, and then found employment as an art teacher in the local Art School. In 1995, as she was passing along Michalská street in Bratislava, some images painted on glass caught her attention in the shop of the Centre for Folk Art Production (ÚĽUV). At that time, ÚĽUV was organising a course in this technique for teachers, which she joined. Under the supervision of master Michal Škrovina she produced her first painting on glass. Subsequently, she completed a course for teachers and began to teach this ancient art technique. She still works on painting on glass today. In 2019, she was awarded the title of Master of Folk Art Production for her work and contribution.
