The Centre for Folk Art Production in Bratislava announces the first year of a nationwide Slovak art and craft competition for children and young people entitled “In the Land of Crafts 2007”. The competition is open to children and adolescents from 8 to 15 years of age.
The aim of this competition is to support the creativity of children and adolescents in the field of crafts and provide them with the opportunity for the innovative use of their free time, increase the interest of children, young people, schools and after-school clubs for children and young people in both traditional as well as contemporary crafts in Slovakia, use of their potential and support interest in national cultural heritage. The object of the competition is to produce works of a utilitarian character implemented using a craft technique. Submissions made using the following types of crafts and techniques may enter the competition: tinker, weaving from natural materials (wicker, corn husks, straw, splints), carving, weaving, bobbin lace embroidery, knitting, crocheting, felting, embroidering, netting and painting on glass with watercolours. These techniques can be mutually combined or supplemented with other materials.
