Ceramics Symposium Phenomenon Gemer ´09

Editorial board

In the spirit of the slogan “where you are, with what you have, and right now” a symposium Phenomenon Gemer ´09 was held in the late summer. The symposium was organised under the auspices of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. It was designed for all university undergraduate and selected secondary students oriented to ceramics in the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic aged 18 to 35 years. A committee made of the organisers selected the participants.

Gemer, Malohont and Novohrad cover an regional area with most precious localities – deposits of ceramic clays in Slovakia. Ceramic deposits in these localities are immensely varied in their chemical composition, colour and properties. The essence of the activity and the exceptionality of the event consisted in the on-site work in the clay deposits under the open sky.

In the future the organisers intend to extend the target group to cover the whole region of V4 countries. The frequency of the symposium should be biannual.
