Wool in leading role

Wool in leading role

Michaela Škodová

The Vlnenie (All about wool) exhibition was initiated by gradual dying out of the last wool craftsmen in our lands. For this reason, in 2017 and 2018, ÚĽUV (The Centre for Folk Art Production) is organising several events, e.g. research projects, a producers’ seminar, workshops, concerned with an introduction of wool as a universal material. In this way, we wish to revive an interest, among current producers and artists, in processing wool. The exhibition curators, Libuša Jaďuďová and Michaela Škodová, do their utmost to increase awareness, among the general public, of not only wool, but the varied crafts using it, and of wool-processing techniques. Moreover, they introduce ÚĽUV and its input into clothing design and production, and into creating everyday objects made from wool, bringing to the attention several contemporary producers, as well as works by students of the Josef Vydra School of Applied Arts in Bratislava, and of the School of Applied Arts in Ružomberok. Vlnenie exhibition takes place in the ÚĽUV’s Gallery in Obchodná Street in Bratislava, until 14th February 2018.
