It is sewn from two halves of double width of black percale. In the waist, it is gathered and sewn into a casing. Teeth made of lining fabric are stitched to the edge from three sides, called saw teeth. There is a row of chain stitch embroidery on the casing. Old women and young women wore a tabard with a row of saw teeth in the time of mourning.
