The Art committee is an advisory body of the Centre for Folk Art Production, which has been active since the organisation’s foundation. Twice a year, it assesses the artistic and aesthetic aspects of new or innovative folk art products and artistic originals, which are submitted by consultants of the Specialised activities department of ÚĽUV after professional consultation with the producers. Once approved, the product can then be distributed in the ÚĽUV shops. In the event of disapproval, the commission will recommend the manufacturer to make modifications or to produce a different assortment. The members of the committee are experts in the fields of ethnography, fine arts and design, appointed by the General Director of ÚĽUV.
Before sending or delivering products for consideration to the art commission, manufacturers are obliged to inform in advance the consultants of the Specialised activities department of ÚĽUV about the material and type aspect of the new product, or to arrange a personal consultation with a consultant for the material group at least 3 weeks before the date of the Art committee meeting. Consultants are entitled not to include a product for discussion in the commission due to unsuitable technical parameters of the product. After consultation with the consultant, the product must be delivered in person or by post, together with a completed product identification sheet. The criteria for assessing the product are: level of technical workmanship, use of natural materials, continuity with traditional craftsmanship, functionality, artistic, visual and aesthetic aspects. If the products are not approved, the producers are obliged to collect them within 30 days of the meeting of the Art committee, either in person or through an authorised person, at their own expense.
