ÚĽUV – a modern brand full of tradition
The Centre for Folk Art Production fulfils its mission in the area of the protection and development of living cultural expression: traditional crafts and home-based production in Slovakia. Its form has changed significantly over its 80 years of existence, just as the form of folk culture has also changed. Whereas at the end of the 19th century it was still based on the needs of a traditional farming and sheperd´s culture, as a product for its own environment, today all the socio-economic changes have been reflected in it. This tendency has also been followed by ÚĽUV, which exists thanks to the permanent support of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic. Whilst in the past our main objective was searching for, mapping out and protecting dying out crafts and home-based production, today we concentrate for the most part on connecting the knowledge and skills of the best producers with the expertise of ethnologists and the vision of designers. The result is original artists works respecting traditional craft methods and materials. Through our wide range of activities we offer the professional and general public the opportunity to discover and try out hand-made crafts and thus appreciate the value of products which are the result of this process.
The exhibition showcases the diversity of crafts and materials, as well as the work of over twenty master craftsmen.
